As part of Reggae Month, celebrated annually in Jamaica during February, the Embassy of the Argentine Republic participated in the commemorative activities, highlighting the value of music as an expression of cultural identity and as a bridge for dialogue between the two countries.
As part of these celebrations, Ambassador Marcelo Balbi Calvo presented the album “Jamaica-Argentina: A Tango-Reggae SoundClash” to the Honorable Olivia Grange, Jamaica’s Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, during a tribute concert held in Kingston. This initiative underscored the cultural cooperation between the two countries and the creative potential of the dialogue between Argentine tango and Jamaican reggae.
Furthermore, in the context of Reggae Month, the Ambassador published an opinion piece in the Jamaica Observer (access the article OBSERVER Jamaica newspaper), in which he reflects on the cultural ties between the two musical genres and on music's capacity to transmit identity, memory, and shared values beyond national borders.
The production "Jamaica-Argentina: A Tango-Reggae SoundClash," recorded between Buenos Aires and Kingston by Argentine and Jamaican musicians and produced by Negril Music Studio, is a concrete example of cultural exchange and bilateral artistic collaboration.
The Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Jamaica thus reaffirms its commitment to promoting cultural initiatives that strengthen ties between Argentina and Jamaica and contribute to intercultural dialogue.
