On February 6th, the Argentine Embassy in Jamaica had the pleasure of hosting the band NONPALIDECE in Kingston to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Bob Marley’s birth. As a result of the band's long trajectory and their recent album "Hecho en Jamaica," the Embassy worked with the Jamaican Ministry of Culture to secure their invitation to Reggae Month 2025.
Reggae Month was declared a national celebration in 2008 by the then Governor-General. In addition to celebrating the global movement surrounding reggae music, the month also commemorates the birth anniversaries of two of Jamaica's most revered artists: Dennis Brown on February 1st and Bob Marley on February 6th. The theme for Reggae Month 2025 is "Come Ketch Di Riddim," and the schedule of activities, in addition to concerts and a Music Industry Conference, also includes educational initiatives such as the Grounation lecture series at the Jamaica Music Museum and symposiums to foster meaningful dialogue about the role of reggae in culture and industry.
NONPALIDECE, with over 25 years of experience, recorded their album "Made in Jamaica" at the Tuff Gong and Anchor studios in Kingston in 2023 and filmed a documentary about their experience. Following this and after discussions with the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, the band was invited to be part of the Reggae Month 2025 activities and participated in the concert for the 80th anniversary of Bob Marley’s birth at Emancipation Park, the main public park in Kingston.
NONPALIDECE was one of two Latin American bands, along with Antidoping from Mexico, that performed at the concert. According to official sources, this year's event attracted over 5,000 people, the largest attendance in its history. Among the local artists were Bongo Herman, a regular at most Bob Marley-centered events; emerging singer Aza Lineage; reggae rastafari singer Warrior King; and the legendary singer Bushman. The show concluded with performances by Julian Marley, Bob Marley’s son, along with Skip Marley, the artist’s grandson.
The concert, available on the TuffGongTV YouTube channel, was a great success and demonstrates the growing cultural ties between Argentina, Jamaica, and the entire Caribbean.
The participation of the Argentine band received significant attention, both on social media and in traditional media in Jamaica and Argentina.
